Caliban and a Tissue Box

What is it about my cats and tissue boxes?

Caught this clip while I was having breakfast and thought I’d share it here:

We had placed the toy in the box for Fafnir the night before. Fafnir loves puzzles and pulling things out of boxes. He doesn’t get stuck anymore since he knows how to just stay still back back kick it off his head.

Caliban, however, is new to this. I didn’t even see him start playing with the box. I just heard the crash as he backed into the sliding door and grabbed my camera. I was planning to pull it off his head if he got too panicked trying to figure it out, but turns out he could handle it on his own. : )

Fafnir in the Tissue Box… Again

I’m not sure what to say about the fact that Fafnir regularly gets his head stuck inside our tissue boxes. On the one hand, he isn’t exactly “stuck.” He has proven, after that first incident that he is capable of getting himself out. But on the other hand, I’d think he’d have come up with a better method to get things out of the boxes by now that didn’t involve lodging his head inside them.

On this occasion, he was being oddly insistent and I’d already pulled the box of his head two times before I decide to start filming him. (If you’re wondering why I have a box of tissues on my porch, the answer: allergies suck).

After he started backing himself along, I quit filming to make sure he didn’t back himself off the edge. It was after pulling it off and placing it far away from the edge that I noticed a small beetle chilling at the bottom of the box.

The Early Days

This video was from the morning after adopting the kittens. It’s 6:00 AM and they’re going wild. I’m not sure how long they were in shelters and cages before we got them, but they seemed pretty thrilled about the ability to run around with one another.

When going through these early day pictures & videos, I also discovered that Fafnir’s understanding of his size compared to the size of a tissue box was skewed long before he got his head stuck:

Fafnir in the Tissue Box

One fine Saturday morning, my husband and I woke to the thumping sound of Fafnir flailing around our bedroom with his head stuck in a tissue box.

Interestingly, he wasn’t too desperate to get out. I’d started stashing my chapstick in the box so he wouldn’t run off with it (chapstick and hair ties are his favorite toys). He wasn’t going to let that, or his big head, keep him from that chapstick.

The video documents the whole ordeal. Sorry it takes my phone a bit to adjust to the lighting.
